Istanbul & Berlin, 2000–2001

Die Arbeit Sevda geht auf die öffentliche Präsenz türkischer Jugendlicher in Berlin zurück und reagiert insbesondere auf das impulsive und kompromisslose Auftreten der Teenager, die sich getrieben von innerer Unruhe die Zeit vertreiben. Im Studio arrangierte Porträts werden mit unabhängig davon in Istanbul aufgenommenen, situativen Szenen kombiniert. Die Installation präsentiert Motive und Bildausschnitte aneinandergereiht und ohne erkennbare Dramaturgie. In der Projektion werden der einzelne Augenblick und der Zustand der Ereignislosigkeit durch Wiederholung – auch auf akustischer Ebene – bis ins Unerträgliche ausgedehnt.

The work Sevda goes back to the public presence of Turkish youths in Berlin and reacts in particular to the impulsive and uncompromising appearance of teenagers who, driven by inner restlessness, pass the time. Arranges studio portraits are combined with situational scenes shot in Istanbul. The installation presents motifs and image details strung together and without any recognizable dramaturgy. In the projection, the individual moment and the state of uneventfulness are extended to the unbearable through repetition – also on an acoustic level.
